This post is me gathering some info for a future post…a survey, if you will.

Basically what I’d like to know is if you shower in the evening, before you go to bed, or in the morning before you go to work…and why.

I’ll refrain from what I do and why until the next post.

  1. dave says:

I shower in the morning, simply because if I shower at night and sleep on my wet hair it stands straight up in the morning.

  2. Josh K says:

Definately in the morning. I can’t get started without it. I also shave in the shower, saves a great deal of time and provides a better shave.

  3. Morning for me. Even after blow-drying my hair, there’s still some moisture in it, so if I sleep like that, my hair will have assumed some strange shape by the time I get up in the morning (and spritzing it with a little water will not help).

I always feel like showers are such a time sink. I hate having to take the time to shower and blow dry my hair (I have thick, long hair). It would drive me nuts to shower twice a day, every day. And I don’t know about other people, but I live in a cooler climate, and I just don’t get that dirty during the day.

  4. Dorie says:

Being a high school student who does not go to her home school, I have to wake up at 6:00 am on weekdays in order to catch the bus. So, on weekdays, I usually shower at night. I just don’t have the time in the mornings.

However, on weekends, I prefer to shower after I’ve woken up and eaten breakfast. It makes me feel more relaxed and helps to get my day off to a good start. Also, that way I’m not sleeping with wet hair. =)

  5. Darien says:

Showering in the mornings helps me wake up; in the summer I’ll sometimes shower in the evenings as well, if I’m feeling particularly icky.

As for why, it’s simple – I sweat a lot at night. In the summer, it’s hot and humid, and in the winter, I tend to bundle up, but the temperature fluctuates so much (my bed is directly on the floor, right up against two heaters) that I invariably get unusually warm.

I’ve contemplated showering twice a day (e.g. in the morning and after I get home from work or before I go to bed), but my hair can’t really take that and ends up a pain to manage.

  6. Sam says:

Occasionally both times. Morning never miss, because it makes me feel fresh. Sometimes when I can’t sleep, I’ve found a shower does help. The climate is a decisive factor. South India is mostly hot.

  7. Graham says:

I aim to do both, but generally miss evenings. Morning is a definite. Weekends I may go without taking a shower at all (how gross?).

  8. gillian says:

Before bed if I haven’t worked out that day, or right after I’ve worked out (usually in the evening) if I have.

  9. kb says:

Morning! Need it to wake up. And the hair thing.

  10. jim says:

    nope! *laugh*

when i do shower, it’s at night. when i am working an on-the-clock job, i can’t get up early enough to make it to my job if i also have to shower.

  11. Randy says:

Evening, as soon as I get home.

  12. TheGreatUnwashed says:

    Shower ! What’s that ?

…. ya I know, just kidding … the funny hangy downy thing near the water closet. … I get in and have a splash around every month or two, but jumping in the creek during warm weather is more fun.

  13. Fiona Chung says:

I shower at nights as i can’t stand going to bed dirty. I like to have a really hot shower at night to wash the days dirt off me and then i also have a quick shower in the morning to waken me up. Personal hygiene and grooming is of the utmost importance to me.

  14. Ted Pavlic says:

I used to always shower at night just to give me more time in the morning to get up and running, but now I shower in the morning to wake me up and make me feel refreshed for the rest of the day. If I don’t shower in the morning, I tend to feel pretty grimey.

(however, every once in a while I’ll skip a morning shower for an afternoon shower if I’m running late and know I’ll be able to shower later)

  15. Daphne says:

Varies depending on whether I went to the gym the day before or not. Evening showering means I have a lot more time the next morning [v. good because I sleep in so much], but there are other drawbacks. The good thing is I can go either way these days.

  16. Lilly says:

Many say “I don’t get how people can go to bed ‘dirty'”. I don’t get how people can go on smelling ‘sleepy’. Blagh. I prefer to shower before and after bed. ;)

  17. Nuthatch says:

Afternoons or evenings, for sure. A good part of the year, I have to do field work starting an hour or more before dawn. I take every minute of sleep I can get!

  18. tadfad says:

Mornings before work. I don’t feel clean until I’ve had my shower.

  19. Ray G says:

    WINTER TIME
2 min before going to bed.
Love the clean feeling right before bed.

I don’t sweat in bed so I’m clean when I get up.

Too cold on a winter’s moring to shower. I give my face a proper washing.

    SUMMER TIME
2 min before going to bed.

If I feel a even a bit sweaty in the morning then I’ll jump in the shower

  20. Funbug says:

Mostly befort going to bed. Very warm and way too long.

I love to sleep as long as possible, so showering in the morning would cost me at least 10 minutes of sleep. :)

  21. Krissy says:

In Summer I shower before I go to bed.
In Winter I shower in the morning and in the evening.

  22. Beth says:

I generally shower in late morning or early afternoon, after I’ve gone to the gym.

  23. ..ak says:

I take a shower to clean myself in the morning. It’s something I did to wake myself up when I was in college, now it’s just part of the ritual.

I take showers in the evening to relax. It’s part sauna part tub. I take my time here. Maybe once a month. Small bathtub = no long soaks.

After any sweating or before a social function. It’s just good manners to be presentable.

  24. travis says:

Both. At night to clean up before sleeping. In the morning to wake up and shave.

  25. korinthe says:

Morning, plus a quick rinse after exercise.

  26. Mullen says:

I shower at night. My sheets get gross too fast already. If I took my daytime slime to bed with me, I’d be sleeping in an oil slick in no time.

  27. gIzmHo says:

I generally shower in the morning, it helps me to wake me up!

  28. artguy says:

Shower in the morning during the week to wake me up before work (must be those negative ions). Occasionally in the evening as well if I did something grungy that day. Saturdays, shower in the evening because I most likely DID do something grungy during the day. Sunday is a morning shower to wake up before church.

  29. flooshee says:

Evening. I like to go to bed clean, plus it is a compromise w/ my wife who likes to shower in the morning. This way we each get our own supply of hot water.

  30. Michael says:

In the morning ofcourse – For two reasons – One being hair altough at the moment the 3mm i got isn’t a problem – But the main reason why showering in the evening isn’t nice is because while you sleep you will often sweat a bit(a lot if it’s summer) and you will be sleeping in sheets which is maybe a week old(if you are not insane and change the sheets every day). So to be clean you need a shower in the morning – But whats the problem, why not take a short shower in the evening and a longer one in the morning.

  31. Daniel says:

Wow, defnitly in the morning. It’s the wake-up call I need to get on with my day. Without a shower, my body/head just feel like they are still sleeping.

  32. eKapa says:

good question. i shower in the morning. sometimes i might shower in the evening, but that’s always followed by one in the morning.

  33. Brandon says:

In the morning. my hair, and it wakes me up. its also built into my routine.

  34. priya says:

i do not bathe for ten to twelve days …. i’m a professor … just an example of worst time management …. nobody wud believe …. i wear the same cloths for months together … i’m too lazy to wash them … too stingy to employ a servant or buy a washing machine …. is all this hazardous?… coz i’ve been like this since my college days n now i’m 30 ….

  35. bob says:

I can’t believe people can shower in the morning I think it is gross to go to sleep with dirt and stuff on you.Like the gym floor on your head from when you do push ups. I am a student and when one day we did a science lab and swabed different places one of them the gym it turned out that the gym floor had the most bacteria. ewwwwwwwwwwww. so thats why I shower in the morning.

  36. Paul says:

I shower in the evening. This is because of many things:

    1) Because I like sleeping when I’m clean.
    2) *I just don’t feel like getting up in the morning and taking a shower.
    3) At night I’m not usually busy, so I have lots of time to take a shower. I like getting it over with, so in the morning I can get up and do my things right away.

The starred “answer” is the major reason why I don’t take a shower in the morning.

  37. smelly says:

    i dont shower at all…..or have a bath ;)

  38. jk says:

in da evenin cuz i jus cant get can barely get outta bed in tym as it is widout havin 2 fit in a mornin shower aswel!n plus if i wash my hair in da mornin it wil stay frizzy all day. so definately evenin showers!

  39. Sara says:

This is an interesting question, and the answers have been interesting too.

For me, it depends on if I feel the need to shower at night. If I feel clean enough to wait till morning, then I do. But nights like tonight, I just didn’t wanna go to bed without a shower, ’cause I didn’t feel clean enough to wait till morning, LOL.

  40. David says:

evenings, i like to go to bed clean. but i have begun to realize that i compensenate the comfort for having bad hair during the day…oh well.

  41. Dussel says:

i take a bath in the morning everyday and take a shower everynight without wetting my hair.

  42. lex says:

I take a shower and wash my hair every evening. I do not even sit down on the couch after work before I shower. Can’t stand the idea of the germs from the train or outdoor in general transferring to my couch or bed. Sometimes I do a full shower in the morning, too. But I always do a quick “wash” every morning. Heck, I take a shower every time I return from outdoor, even if it means taking a shower three to four times a day.

  43. Martin says:

Both. I need to shower before bed so I can relax, and feel clean. Showering in the morning is even more important, you’ve just spent 10 hours sleeping, how can you say you’re still clean the next day? You’re not. To those who don’t shower in the morning, or don’t shower in the evening, try it, you haven’t lived!

  44. Eduardo says:

    Morning and night…

Morning because I usually am too tired and I need the boost.

Night… well because I can sleep if I’m sweaty!

  45. Erika says:

At night, because I don’t get up in time to take one in the morning

  46. Elque says:

Has to be the morning. I’m a morning person (awake at about 4-5am) and the morning shower is the best wake-up call ever. I also take a shower after a gym workout or run. I sweat a lot so a showering after any activity (at the gym or in bed) is a must.

  47. coze says:

I used to shower at night (because my wife forces me to) but this summer, after nights of sweat, I decided I should stop it and have shower in the morning. Can somebody verify if having a shower at night makes you sweat more at sleep ? (especially at summer, and please consider that the shower I’m talking about is actually involves entering a hot japanese both tube as well.)

  48. Wacky says:

Night time would be my favorit time to take a shower because i hat mornings when its cold and usually iam lazy. At night i am a wake and preparing my body to feel great for a wonderful clean cozy sleep. :) love it .

Moringings are fine if you dont have time at night sometimes i will do that. :P

  49. Kay says:

I’m in the minority that shower/bathe in the EVENING. I can’t go to sleep with the residue from the day on my skin. I sleep so snuggly well when I’m clean. It’s also better for my skin not to wash off the protective oils before I venture out into the weather and environment.
